From Viking programme to A26 submarine for the Polish Navy – how to wisely build security in the Baltic Sea and the Arctic?
The echoes of the dispute over Greenland, which culminated at the 56th World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, are still silent, and the security issues of the Arctic – including Greenland, Iceland, Scandinavia and the Baltic – seem to be increasingly important. In this context, the outcome of the ORKA programme and the selection of the Swedish offer of the new generation A26 submarine for the Polish Navy opens a new chapter in the construction of Polish’s underwater capabilities and in Polish-Swedish defence cooperation. This decision comes at a time of rapid growing importance of the Baltic Sea and the Arctic as key areas of strategic rivalry – not only between NATO and Russia and China, but also within NATO – between the United States of America and the European part of the North Atlantic Alliance supported by Canada.

Hanwha Ocean’s Vision: Building Defense and Industrial Partnerships with Poland?
Sean Seongwoo Park, Vice President of International Business at Hanwha Ocean and former submarine commander, says in an interview for the SektorObronny.pl and NationalSecurity.pl portal, about South Korea’s strategic offer for Poland’s ORKA submarine program – which is a Polish defense procurement initiative aimed at acquiring new conventionally powered submarines (diesel-electric, with air-independent propulsion – AIP) for the Polish Navy – the unique capabilities of the KSS III, and the company’s broader vision for investing in Poland’s shipbuilding industry, unmanned technologies, and long-term defense partnerships. About vision of building defense and industrial partnerships with Poland?
Who knows whether Poland will soon become a strategic partner of South Korea – not only in the area of defense, but also in industry, innovation and maritime economy. The KSS III submarine is a symbol of a broader vision of cooperation: technology transfer, investment in Polish shipyards and building long-term relationships based on partnership and Korean investments in Poland. It can be a new chapter in international relations opening for Poland?

Armies of Europe – what is the real military potential of Ukrainian and Russian troops and other armies of European countries
Using the model that has been built and written up – reliably, quantitatively and objectively describing the armed forces of the decided majority of countries of the world – using publicly available data published by institutions, such as the SIPRI Institute from Stockholm and Transparency International, we are now describing the armed forces of the European states, with particular emphasis on the current war in Ukraine.
China’s Sixth-Generation Super Jet: A Space Age Production to Surpass the F-35 and F-22
Ensuring national security today should primarily rely on building a deterrent capability so visible that an adversary would not dare to attack, fully aware that they would inevitably face defeat. This is why the world’s greatest powers are investing unimaginable sums of money into inventing and developing ever more advanced weapons technologies. Recently, China announced that it is building its first ultra-modern aircraft capable of entering space and conducting combat operations there.

Armies of the Far East – the real military potential of the countries of East Asia and the Pacific
One of the regions of the world where the risk of the outburst of a conflict currently seems high is the Far East. The strongest military power of that region, or rather the second most powerful in the world, is China. Its strength is growing rapidly, because two generations ago it was actually a third world country. However, it has been developing rapidly since around 1980, and the rate of growth of China’s GDP has frequently been in double digits. China’s GDP has increased approximately tenfold since then, and as China is also a huge country – demographically, one of the two most populous countries on Earth, alongside India – the effect of this growth has also been impressive and has globally changed the balance of power, including military power. So what does the actual military potential of the countries of East Asia and the Pacific look like now?

Civil Defence
We will build new shelters – but where to shelter now?
According to the declarations of representatives of the Polish government, in June 2024 we should know what the draft law on civil defense contains. The act is to include provisions on civil protection. A special fund will also be created for the construction of shelters. Information on which patterns are worth using, what potential we currently have and where to look for places of refuge in various regions of Poland is presented below.
How to become a professional firefighter and how much can you earn?
The State Fire Service of Poland is one of the basic elements of building an efficient civil service that responds quickly to threats. Firefighters always have a lot of work. In May 2024, the media reported violent fires in the hall at the Marywilska street in Warsaw or in the attic of the school in Grodzisk Mazowiecki, during the final exams there. More garbage dumps and dozens of hectares of forests were on fire, with litter moisture dropping below 12-14% in many regions in mid-month. In addition, there are violent storms and downpours that paralyze cities, flooding viaducts and streets, breaking trees and tearing off roofs, which causes real threats to people in various regions of Poland. We remind those who want to serve in the fire brigade how to get into the State Fire Service and how much they can earn as a firefighter.
Places in shelters for the chosen ones – for the rest basements and dugouts
If an armed conflict were to occur, currently only 300,000 inhabitants can count on places in shelters in Poland. Maybe this will change in the future, but for now these are just declarations. Experience from Ukraine shows that shelters may be needed at any time, but we will not quickly make up for the effects of many years of neglect.

“Hawk” ready to hunt drones – Hertz showed its “drone whip”
For decades, the biggest competition for state-owned military manufacturing plants was foreign purchases. Private arms companies remained out of favor, although they were and still are several times more efficient than state-owned companies. The government promises that this is changing.
“Made in Poland” might sound proud – this company is better known globally than in Poland
The election declarations about defense and the Polish arms industry have not yet stopped reverberating, whereas the government is already smoothly moving on to further promises. Although announcements of ideas about including private companies in production for the defense sector have been made in the past, there has been little enthusiasm to implement them to date. How will it be now?

Important cooperation with Scandinavian allies… and excellent science
Russian aggression against Ukraine has shaken the global security system, but above all it has become a challenge for the countries of NATO’s eastern flank, which are closest to Russia. That is why the Baltic States, new NATO members – Finland and Sweden – and even Norway, which has been in the alliance for years, are arming themselves in earnest.
